The Burnsville Bucks are a team of the South Metro Hockey League, where they have played as a charter member since the league's inaugural 1971-72 season. Based in Burnsville, Minnesota, the Bucks play their home games at a the 1,400-seat Gary R. Harker Rink.

History[]

The Bucks are named after Buck Hill, a large hill in Burnsville.

Before joining the South Metro League, the Bucks played their first eight seasons (1964-1971) as a member of the Twin Cities Hockey League and its West Division, making them the SMHL's only team to predate the league.

The Bucks have won 5 South Metro League Titles and appeared in 3 Super Series (1978, 1981 & 1985). In addition, the Bucks have not missed the playoffs since helping form the South Metro League, their 17-year playoff streak tied with archrivals the Apple Valley Cardinals for the third-longest active streak in the MAHL.

Culture[]

Traditions[]

Burnsville players have "Victory Wine" after Buck wins, where the team shares a bottle of Red Wine in the locker room after every win. The tradition started in the late 70's and is said to have been inspired by the team's primary color of wine.

Rivalry Trophies[]

The Antlers[]

The Bucks' archrivals are the Apple Valley Cardinals, with whom they combine for all but three titles in the South Metro League's history and against whom they compete for The Antlers, decided by the winner of each season series (or, when the season series is tied, who scored more goals between the two teams).

Currently, the Cards hold the Antlers, having won them back in 1986 and successfully holding them the following two years. The Cards lead the all-time trophy series, 5-2.

The Acorn[]

In addition, the Bucks compete against the Eagan Oaks for The Acorn, decided by the winner of each season series (or, when the season series is tied, who scored more goals between the two teams).

Currently, the Bucks hold the Acorn, having won it for the first time in 1988 after a year in the Oaks' possession. The all-time trophy series is tied, 1-1.
